Desktop companion
WB Buddy, a companion that closes the loop.
A small desktop presence that stays out of the way while you work. It receives tasks you explicitly assign, shows bounded progress, raises a card when it needs a decision, and celebrates only when the service confirms the work is finished.
Seven states, each one meaning something specific.
WB Buddy · local task status
A local demonstration of the seven states. No model is called and nothing is generated. In production every state change comes from a signed server-side event, never from a timer.
| State | What WB Buddy does | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Idle | Gentle breathing, an occasional glance | No assigned work |
| Assigned | An acknowledgement bubble | The task was accepted and authorised |
| Working | A subtle loop and progress detail | The job is running on the server |
| Needs input | A prompt card is raised | Your decision or approval is required |
| Completed | A brief jump and a success bubble | A signed completion event arrived |
| Failed | A calm recovery message | The error is recorded; retry or support is offered |
| Offline | Sleeps beside a local-status badge | No network; no false progress is shown |
What the companion is not allowed to do.
- It is an interface to an authenticated task system, not an unrestricted autonomous desktop controller.
- Every task identifies its user, tenant, purpose, permitted tools, data class, timeout and approval policy.
- No unrestricted screen reading, keyboard capture, filesystem scanning or background microphone access.
- Operating-system access uses narrow, revocable permissions with visible status indicators.
- Health, legal, financial, publishing and identity actions require a human gate.
- Completion is triggered by a verified server-side event, never by a timer.
- You can pause, mute, hide, inspect activity or revoke permissions at any time.
Why a celebration is trustworthy.
- The desktop client accepts a state change only when the event signature, user, tenant and task identifiers all match the authenticated session.
- A forged or replayed event is rejected, so the character cannot be made to celebrate work that did not happen.
- The false-completion target is zero. A companion that says a task is done when it is not is worse than no companion at all.
- On failure the companion explains what failed, what changed, what did not change, and how to resume safely.

Start with a conversation.
A consultation is a scoped conversation about what you need, not a sales call. You will leave it knowing whether this is the right practice for the work.
